Florida Water Watch

St. Joseph Bay

Stormwater activity, periodic scallop decline and mangrove expansion are all concerns of the overall health of St. Joseph Bay. UF/IFAS Extension Gulf County has coordinated efforts with state agencies to select 6 sites in this estuarine system for investigating water quality. Sites around the bay of concern are being targeted and monitored for DO, pH, temperature, salinity, turbidity and the emerging environmental concern of microplastics. Four volunteers were trained and are monitoring sites on a monthly basis.
